So, if you follow me on Instagram, you've seen we've been in Denmark for the summer. It's where we are from, it's where our family is, and where our heart is. I also have a passion for architecture, I studied at USC, and love photographing all of it, from the old to the modern. We've been back about a week, and Charlie started school today, so I'm finally taking photos off my camera and checking everything out! Here are a few I found tonight...

What better way to spend your 11th birthday than with an all-weekend fest?! Charlie started his 11th-Birthday-Bash-Weekend with a typical Danish breakfast of pastries, breads, and a flag on the table, and waving outside in his honor! Then off to Tivoli to meet the family and have an awesome day of rides, fish and chips lunch, and more treats, and more rides! We did not end it there, the evening held a home-made pizza party, Charlie's favorite food! Each person made a unique personal pizza to share with everyone (my cousin Lise and I premade the dough). And typical Danish Birthday layer cake for dessert! It was all so fun and delicious!! (The next day was a music festival, but I'll get to that later! 😉 )

My awesome aunt and uncle recently uprooted from Århus, Denmark, and decided to try life in Rørvig. For those unfamiliar, Århus is the second largest city in Denmark and is situation on the east coast of the peninsula up from Germany, called Jutland. It's quite a cultural exciting city, my aunt and uncle both architects were heavily involved with the design centers of the city. But now, it's Rørvig, a tiny slow-paced coastal town on the northern tip of Sjæland, the island on which Copenhagen sits, surrounded by a fjord and the North Sea and Kattegat. It's beautiful, picturesque, quaint, (cold and windy), and made for postcards!

Just a little reminiscing of a trip to Århus, Denmark, where my mom spent her teenage years, and where my aunt, uncle and one cousin still live. It's such a beautiful city, so much scenery with the Marselisborg harbor and the amazing architecture. All of Denmark is famous for the architecture, but Århus seems to claim more than it's fair share. Århus is definitely in my Top 10 favorite cities over the world, but maybe I'm a little biased! 😉

This winter break, I had five days on my own for the first time in, well, nine and a half years. As a divorced mom, and a mom with a kid on the spectrum, that five days can be both an eternity, a savior, or a sudden source of anxiety... what will I do with myself?! It was a mixed bag of emotion for me. At first I thought this was great, Charlie gets to hang out with his dad, winter break is so long, that would be a relief to the boredom. I felt excited to not have to deal with therapies, driving all over town, and then... what will I do and why would I want to do any of it without the coolest kid there is?

This last weekend we had a nice little get-away, Charlie and me, and of course, Lily, joining my parents and my aunt and uncle on their vineyard in the Santa Ynez valley. It's a little bit of heaven a few hours out of LA. Lots of good food, good wine, good conversation and lots of fresh air for a little boy and a dog that almost don't know what to do with that much space! This does not look like LA...
Nope. Definitely doesn't sound like LA either...
A little boy so happy to freely bounce his ball again, without complaining neighbors' ears...
And this doesn't smell like LA either...
"Now it's back to LA, our home, and our everyday routine.
No more chasing rabbits and lizards
Through rows of vineyards.
No more lamby-bones on the porch after dinner
While humans tell stories and sip wines like a winner.
That is until next time.
For now I'm happy to be
My boy's companion and friend.
I'll trade the country-dog life for city-dog again.
And be a vegetarian in an apartment in the city.
Back to... the Daily Lily."
