Happy 4th of July with a little Ameriana from the Ranch

As you saw, I was at this great old western style ranch last week, it is now a California State Park. It’s so amazing to see, I think even if I wasn’t there for a shoot, I’d have to have my camera out. These photos I decided to play with using and HDR technique, high dynamic range. It’s perfect for situations that don’t allow you to use lighting, like scenery or architecture, and for conditions that have a lot of shadow combined with high light areas. It’s a process of layering photos of the exact same scene, I take at least three, one at the correct exposure, one one or two stops over-exposed, and one one or two stops under-exposed. Then in post, I layer the three images to pull out the ideal spots in each photo, merging into one photograph.
